The Silesian University of Technology (SUT) is the oldest technical university in Upper Silesia and one of the largest in the country. It was established in 1945 as a scientific and educational facility for the most industrialized area in Poland, and one of the most industrialized in Europe. For over 75 years it has been an important institution of public life. It plays a significant cultural and opinion-forming role in the region. The Silesian University of Technology is the only university in Silesia to be included in the prestigious group of 10 Polish universities, winners of the "Excellence Initiative-Research University" competition organized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.Currently, SUT educates over 18,000 students. The University offers first-cycle studies (engineering and bachelor's degree), second-cycle studies - master's degree, education at a doctoral school called "Joint Doctoral School" and postgraduate studies. Studies are conducted in full-time and parttime mode. Studying at the Silesian University of Technology allows cooperating with many companies, which willingly employ university graduates. According to "Wprost" weekly, the university is on the high fourth place among universities in Poland, whose graduates are most wanted on the labour market.
