MRCEM Examination Pathway
  • MRCEM Primary: A 3-hour written examination consisting of 180 Single Best Answer (SBA) questions that assess basic medical sciences, including anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, pathology and microbiology.
  • MRCEM SBA: A written examination comprising 180 SBA questions delivered in two 2-hour papers. It evaluates clinical knowledge and the management of emergency medicine presentations.
  • MRCEM OSCE: A practical Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) consisting of 16 clinical stations that assess communication, clinical examination, practical procedures, resuscitation and decision-making skills in emergency medicine.
